The Fundamentals of Telecommunications

Recommended for:

Professionals who need an introductory to intermediate understanding of the TCP/IP Funds protocol suite. This course is essential for network administrators, analysts, technicians and new technical hires.

Prerequisites:

Networking Fundamentals +3D or a general knowledge of data networking concepts.

You will learn to:

  • Describe the TCP/IP Funds protocol suite to include its history, functional objectives, protocols and layered functionality
  • Perform decimal, binary and hexadecimal number system conversions
  • Identify the components that comprise an IP address and subnetwork mask
  • Describe the characteristics of various protocols contained in the TCP/IP Funds protocol suite, including ARP, ICMP, Reverse ARP, BootP and DHCP
  • Perform IP subnetworking for a given IP network and determine the available subnetworks, broadcast addresses and the valid host addresses for each subnetwork
  • Identify IP addressing design issues and employ an IP addressing design methodology for subnetworking
  • Design a Class C and a Class B private IP network addressing scheme using complex IP subnetworking
  • Identify the differences between public and private IP addressing schemes
  • Describe the functions of Network Address Translation, Proxy Servers and Firewalls in an IP network environment
